I love when a holiday coincides with something you love to do already.

It’s no secret I’m crazy about books. Always have been. The day I found out you could, gasp!!!, check out as many as you wanted from the local library, well, that news sort of changed my life.

I never had to choose between the sports biography, a low-key adventure in the English countryside, or the latest Babysitters Club novel because I could have it all. There’s not many things in life you can say that about.

And when you’re the one making up stories for a living now, reading remains such an enjoyable and important part of the craft. I love to see how my fellow authors let their imaginations run wild. How they pace a story, develop the characters, choose the stakes, and wrap everything up in a satisfying fashion.

But aside from “research” it’s pure joy to get lost in a story. To step outside of your own life and immerse yourself in somebody else’s story.

Which is exactly what’s happening with my latest read The Book Swap. It’s one of those stories I can’t wait to return to whenever I have a few minutes.

Now it’s your turn: What are you reading at the moment? What is your favorite kind of story to disappear into?
