The Battle of Who Could Care Less

I typically loathe e-mail forwards with a passion, but this particular exercise was pretty fun (and you’ll understand the blog entry title when you see the last question.)So here’s what I had to do… 1. Put your iTunes on shuffle. (Easy enough) 2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer. 3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS! 4. Make a fun/silly/witty comment on your answer. 5. Tag 10 friends who might enjoy doing the same as well as the person you got the note from. (Not going to happen,… Continue reading

True Confessions of a Movie Critic

As I was enjoying a leisurely breakfast and flipping the channels this morning, I came across Hope Floats on VH-1, a Southern dramedy that stars two people I normally like a lot—Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr. Unfortunately, their inherent likability didn’t quite make up for how truly bad this movie is, but I thought I’d give it another chance. After all, some movies (like Zoolander or Elizabethtown did for me) get better the more you watch them, right? But after watching all the overly dramatic acting (that’s you, Ms. Bullock), the overabundance of big, toothy smiles that’s ideally supposed… Continue reading

Two Weeks With the Fab Four

Although I’m more than a decade too young to have experienced Beatlemania firsthand, I was first “introduced” to the lads from Liverpool by a high school friend in the early 90’s. Sad, I know. But better late than never, right? So basically while everyone else was sporting the flannel, crushin’ on everyone from Eddie Vedder to Billy Corgan and rockin’ out to “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” I was gaining quite an education about the band that forever changed the pop music landscape. As my friend and I flipped through countless pics of the band and listened to the music any… Continue reading

Loving the Season You’re In

I know, I know, “Love the Season You’re In” sounds a little touchy-feely, a little like something I’d see plastered on some car’s bumper and immediately roll my eyes and make some snarky comment about. But when I was walking in downtown St. Paul today during what’s probably the last of the beautiful Indian summer mornings we’ve been having lately here, the idea of loving the season I’m in actually made a whole lot of sense to me. The proverbial light switch was officially flipped on rather than off. Now lemme explain… Ever since I was a kid growing up… Continue reading

So, I’m Officially An Aunt!!!

It’s still taking me a minute to process that my baby sister Lindsey (yes, she’s 8 years younger than me) has a baby now. After all, I used to change her diapers and dutifully held her in the perfect, big-sister way any time a babysitter showed up at our house. For reasons I’m still not sure of, Miss Lindsey would scream her pretty little head off if anyone but me held her—guess it was just an early sign of her good taste, huh? And now she’s got a baby girl of her own to hold whether she’s screaming bloody murder… Continue reading
